04 / FAQ
Frequently asked questions
-
Can I start using the app for free?
Yes — downloading ESPL and using the basic features is free.
Only when running a challenge that involves a sponsorship do you need the sponsorship itself (paid by the Sponsor) and small blockchain gas fees (a few yen to a few dozen yen).
-
Does it support both iPhone and Android?
Yes — both iOS (iPhone) and Android are supported.
Steps sync automatically with HealthKit (iOS) and Google Fit (Android). For Android, it's worth checking the prerequisites before initial setup.
-
What if step counts aren't flowing in?
First, check the integration setting between HealthKit (iOS) / Google Fit (Android) and ESPL.
On Android, Health Connect, health-related permissions, and battery optimization can all affect this. Details are on the Android deep-dive page.
-
How do I join a challenge?
You can create a challenge yourself, or join one someone else has set up.
Detailed flows will follow on the challenge-related pages as they're published.
-
Can I use the app without JPYC?
Yes. Day-to-day step tracking and challenges with only a step goal can be used without JPYC.
JPYC is a yen-denominated incentive used when you want to systemize a sponsorship and its distribution. See the JPYC page for details.
-
Where should I go when I'm stuck?
Start with the “Getting started” flow and the “Feature reference by category” on this page.
